The Northern Girl Initiative (NGI), a registered non-profit organization operating in Northern Ghana, has completed a specialized training program on digital rights advocacy, activism, and online security. The training was organized by the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) with support from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and held in Accra from February 16–19, 2026. This training strengthens our work to protect girls and young women from digital harm while promoting safe and inclusive online participation.

The primary objective of the training was to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations to navigate digital threats, protect beneficiary data, and advocate for digital rights as human rights. As organizations increasingly rely on digital platforms for communication and service delivery, risks such as cyberattacks, online harassment, and data breaches have become significant operational concerns. This training strengthens our work to protect girls and young women from digital harm while promoting safe and inclusive online participation.

Ruka Yaro De-Liman, Executive Director of Northern Girl Initiative, stated: This training has provided practical knowledge on data protection policy and the Electronic Transactions Act. It will enable our organization to better address the digital safety needs of young women in Northern Ghana“.

Participation in the WACSI training has equipped the organization with the legal, technical, and advocacy tools required to operate securely in Ghana’s digital environment. NGI remains committed to creating a safe online space for the girls and young women it serves.

Our key takeaway: protecting digital spaces is essential to protecting people, voices, and the causes we champion.
