WACSI Match Fund Grant
The WACSI Match Fund Grant is a resource mobilization initiative by the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), in partnership with Wilde Ganzen Foundation, designed to strengthen the sustainability of grassroots civil society organizations.
Northern Girl Initiative was selected as a beneficiary of the grant to support the implementation of the Young Women’s Coding and Leadership Training (YOWCL) Cohorts 7 & 8. Through this partnership, NGI is mobilizing local resources to expand access to digital skills, leadership development, entrepreneurship, and technology opportunities for young women from underserved communities in Northern Ghana.
Read, Rise & Thrive English Literacy Project
This is a community-led initiative that helps improve reading skills, confidence, and learning outcomes among school-aged girls in Northern Ghana.
Through an intensive literacy bootcamp, trained youth volunteers provide structured reading support, helping learners strengthen their reading fluency, accuracy, comprehension, and confidence. The project combines evidence-based literacy activities, community engagement, and continuous assessment to ensure that learners receive the support they need to succeed.
In 2025, the project reached 315 learners across 20 schools in Tamale and Sagnarigu, delivering 40 hours of literacy instruction through the dedication of community volunteers and local partners. By mobilizing local resources and volunteer support, the initiative demonstrates how communities can come together to create meaningful educational opportunities for girls.
Your support will help us provide learning materials, volunteer training, follow-up activities, and expanded access to literacy support for more children who need it most.
Together, we can help every child read, rise, and thrive.
