Across Northern Ghana, unpredictable rainfall and prolonged dry spells are becoming a major threat to agriculture. Many smallholder farmers are struggling to maintain healthy crops as changing weather patterns continue to affect farming seasons and reduce yields. For women farmers especially, these challenges threaten not only livelihoods but also food security for entire families.
In response to these growing challenges, the Northern Girl Initiative is leading a transformative effort through its Climate-Smart Agriculture Demonstration Farm in Koduhi Zegu Yili. The initiative is empowering women farmers with practical solutions that promote sustainable farming, climate resilience, and economic empowerment.

At the heart of the project is a solar-powered drip irrigation system that enables farmers to grow crops efficiently despite inconsistent rainfall. Unlike traditional farming methods that rely heavily on seasonal rains, the irrigation system provides a reliable and sustainable water source, helping crops survive and thrive even during dry periods. This is more than farming. It’s about empowering women, building climate resilience, and creating a model that can transform agriculture across Northern Ghana.

Imagine the impact if every rural community had access to such farms. Together, we can make it happen.
