53,415 adolescent pregnancies recorded in just seven months.
According to data from the Ghana Health Service, Ghana recorded 53,415 adolescent pregnancies between January and July 2026, including 1,501 pregnancies among girls aged 10–14.
These are not just statistics. Behind every number is a young girl whose education, health, aspirations and future may be affected.
At Northern Girl Initiative (NGI), we believe that preventing adolescent pregnancy requires more than responding after it happens. It requires investing in girls before they reach crisis points, keeping them in school, providing accurate information, building their confidence and life skills, strengthening access to support services, and most importantly creating opportunities for them to shape their own futures.
Programmes that combine education, mentorship, digital skills, leadership, health information and economic opportunities have proven to have impact but we need to do more.
We must move from simply asking “How do we respond to teenage pregnancy?” to also asking:
“What do girls need to remain safe, make informed decisions and pursue their aspirations?”
Every girl deserves the opportunity to grow, learn and build her future without her potential being cut short.
Invest in girls. Keep girls in school. Give girls opportunities.
